WALL STREET, GLOBAL MARKETS CRASH AGAIN; McCAIN TRIES TO CHANGE FOCUS; DEMS GAIN IN GA, NH, NC SENATE RACE POLLS.
P2008. On the same day that the New York Daily News quoted a top John McCain advisor as saying "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose," Wall Street tanked yet again. The 370 point market drop mirrored the market crashed in the Asian and European markets on Monday. The simultaneous market crashes illustrate the global connectivity between the foreign and US economies. With a new poll showing roughly 60% of all Americans feared we possibly on the brink of another Great Depression, McCain will likely prove unable to divert attention away from the economy. However, in an attempt to do so, both McCain and runningmate Sarah Palin spent Monday referring to Barack Obama's relationships with "questionable" people like college professor Bill Ayers. Ayers was a once member of the leftist Weather Underground urban guerrilla warfare group in the early 1970s, before renouncing his violent past. Palin also suggested that Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, should also be a topic for public discussion. In response, Obama campaign denounced the "guilt-by-association" attacks as McCain "gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance." The two men meet for the second Presidential debate on Tuesday evening.
